APD closes net on another high end bike theft ring

UPDATE: KXAN is reporting Austin Police arrested Jesus Salazar-Gonzalez and Jose Mendoza in the sting. The video had a cursory pan of the bikes (which did not appear that high end.) We’ll see if we can get more details on the bikes.

Had a bike stolen recently? Read on.

It’s been a few years since the James Clayton made headlines by befriending club riders and later going to their homes to steal their high end bikes. While there are no further details yet, APD announced yesterday that they made an arrest in a burglary sting that yielded 25 stolen high end bicycles.

Burglary Unit Seize Property in Undercover Operation

Austin Police Department Burglary Unit Detectives conducted an undercover operation which ended on July 22, 2011. Search warrants were executed at 9503 Parkfield Drive #A and 9505 Parkfield Drive #A where numerous stolen items were recovered.

The following items were seized from 9503 Parkfield Drive #A:
· Approximately twenty five high end bicycles
· Numerous tools
· A small amount of marijuana
· Approximately $3040.00 cash

The following items were seized from 9505 Parkfield Drive #A:
· A covered trailer stolen in 2008
· Numerous tools
· Computer Monitors
· Bicycles
· Air soft guns
· Approximately $2550.00 cash

Burglary detectives are actively working to identify all suspects they encountered during the undercover operation, and charges are anticipated.
