One thing is for certain: I can pretty happily watch BMXers do tricks all day long. Much more advanced, original and daring than fixie tricksters, there is a definite wow factor and admiration of the ability to do amazing things on bikes. Scotsman Danny MacAskill, who we’ve featured here before, really takes it to a new level so I was pleased to see him put out this latest film shot in an abandoned factory.
Speaking of bike tricks, there is a Kickstarter project you might want to look at if you want to support more of this kind of film making. The documentary Bikelordz is looking for crowd source funding to help promote and distribute their film about BMX trick culture in Ghana. $15 gets you an on screen credit, $25 will get you a downloadable copy of the film, and $50 will get you the DVD.
Bikelordz : Stunts and Styles from Accra, Ghana from Bikelordz on Vimeo.
Bikelordz is a short documentary about the self-taught, self-invented bicycle culture which young people in Accra have created and passed on to their younger contemporaries over time. It follows crews of these young bicycle gurus as they try and use their skills to make money, gain recognition, and live on their own terms.
Finally with our first cyclocross skills session and practice race coming up on Sunday, I’ve had cyclocross on the brain and came across this awesome video of a junk yard cyclocross race sponsored by Philadelphia custom builder Bilenky Cycle Works (who will also be showing at the Texas Custom Bicycle Show in Austin, October 15-16.) Th film will also be showing in Austin at the Bicycle Film Festival, December 1-4. I’d love to see what Danny MacAskill could do with this course.
