Weekly event recommendations takes a winter break

With the Christmas/New Year’s holiday week approaching, there will be fewer and fewer organized opportunities to ride so our Thursday morning preview of recommended two wheeled events will be taking a holiday break the next 2 weeks returning on Thursday, January 5.

The next 2 weeks is not completely without chances to ride. You can always check our comprehensive calendar of all cycling events to see find a ride. Here are a few other rides of note before our regular posts return.

Thursday Night Social Ride: Bike Trail of Lights

“Put on your Santa hats and elf ears it’s time for the Thursday Night Social Ride Christmas Edition. Our very own Timaeus Martinez has been tirelessly searching for some of the best lit streets in Austin for us to ride through on Thursday. So we shall take a tour of the west side to see all the sparkly lights then we will jingle all the way to my favorite bar in Austin, The Jackalope where they are giving us a keg of beer for Christmas. ” Meet up at 7:30, ride at 8:00. End of Year Critical Mass Ride
Firday, December 30, 5 PM
West Mall UT Campus

This bike jamming ride is designed to shout to the world that bikes belongs and occurs on the last Friday of the month. You never know what will happen, but don’t miss this foundation of the Austin bike culture we know today.

Resolution Ride hosted by Bicycle Sport Shop
New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012, 9 am
Bicycle Sport Shop, 9900 W. Parmer Lane
Start the year out ride with a bike ride! This is a social, at your own pace, ride. The full 50-mile route is to the Andice General Store and back, but riders can turn back at any point along Parmer. The route will be marked with signage and a turnaround point at ~ mile 12 for those who wish to ride 25 miles. Cost is $12, which includes 1 supported rest stop, post-ride food and 2 beer tickets.
